ABOUT US

At The English Lab, we believe in empowering teachers and students by providing training, support and quality resources. Our aim is to be clear and purposeful in all that we do. This has led us to creating a range of engaging presentations and resources designed to instill confidence within students and have them see their own improvement as they study.

We avoid formulaic writing and worn out cliches. Instead, we focus on inspiring students to develop and be critical of their own thoughts and interpretations. With this achieved, we can then provide clear guidelines and helpful hints in ensuring that student expression is clear, insightful and sophisticated.

Our resources include space for student reflection and further thought. We also include many worked examples for teachers to use in the classroom in order to ensure that students are aware of exactly what is expected of them and confident in their ability to reach new heights with their reading and writing.

ABOUT our founder

With a decade of experience in secondary English classrooms, Ben founded The English Lab with a vision to provide high quality resources and ideas to teachers and students across the state. He is motivated by working with teaching teams and providing them with support in order to have them improve their own practice. Similarly, he is passionate about working with students and inspiring them to see their full potential.

Ben has extensive experience in curriculum planning, teacher coaching and creating dynamic units of work for all secondary year levels. He holds a passion for VCE English and is always looking for ways to bring students to thinking in a critical and complex manner, before working with them to express these ideas in the most eloquent possible way. 

Throughout the school year, Ben and The English Lab can assist with anything from curriculum planning and data analysis to mentorship and support in implementing reading and writing programs. We run series of professional development sessions for teachers and presentations for students about their performance in VCE. We aim to create lasting partnerships with schools, providing training, support and resources all focused on inspiring teachers to get the most out of their classes and students to get the most out of themselves.
